What is Dalsland Gravel Race?

Dalsland Gravel Race is a bike race along gravel roads in Dalsland. The course passes through forests and by many beautiful lakes and some smaller communities. The trendy sport of gravel biking is the perfect challenge for anyone wanting to get a lot out of their biking experience. It requires both strength and stamina, but isn’t as technical as mountain biking and the terrain is often more varied than classic road biking on asphalt. The race is open to beginners as well as more experienced cyclists.

Classes

There are two distances, one longer (140 km with an altitude difference of around 2 000 metres) and one shorter (70 km with an altitude difference of around 1 000 metres). The classes are:

• Women
• Men

The longer course has a mass start at 09.00 and the shorter course a mass start at 11.00.

The course routes

Both courses go along Dalsland’s lovely undulating gravel roads, by rift lakes and small villages. The roads here are lightly trafficked, and nature is always within touching distance. The courses run parallel for the first 30 kilometres, then the long course turns northwards to go around Lake Lelång up by Lennartsfors. The short course follows the classic Torrskogturen route, with lots of great ascents and descents. Both tracks start and finish in Bengtsfors. Find a map of the course routes here.

Did you know that…?

• Even if cycling on gravel roads has been happening since the first bike was invented, gravel biking itself is a relatively new category of bike race. The trend started in the USA where it is also called adventure biking.
• Dalsland Gravel Race premiered in 2019 as part of a project to develop cycle tourism in Dalsland and south Värmland.
• When you have reached the finish in Bengtsfors you can look forward to a delicious meal and coffee with the other riders.
