When you step off the train at Vara station or park your car, it can feel good to stretch your legs. Take a stroll around the centre of Vara and get to know the history of this small town. Sit and rest your legs over lunch
Perhaps your stomach is rumbling at this point, so what could be better than a tasty bite to eat? Restaurang Kronan with West Sweden’s largest collection of single-malt whiskies (!) offers both a lunch buffet and an à la carte menu. This listed building features a hand-painted ceiling dating from 1928 and over six metres high. This, combined with the rustic interior and expertly-prepared food, makes it well worth a visit.

Explore the shops
Vara offers a selection of 30 or so unique shops to stroll around with a hand-picked range of goods. The pace of life is noticeably calmer than the big city, making shopping a relaxing and tranquil experience. Forget the crowds, bustle and noise! The shops are known for their high level of service and expert staff who will do their best to ensure a positive and bespoke shopping experience.

You will find a wide assortment: everything from locally produced food to clothing, antiques and sports equipment. Here are just a few examples:
Fashion: Fagerbergs Dam & Herr has been supplying its customers with high-quality clothing since 1953. There’s something for everyone here, from age 0 to 100. At Keep CO you will find classic garments that are sure to become long-lasting wardrobe staples. If you are looking for shoes, bags or gloves, OJ:s skor is the place to go.
Flowers and homewares: Pay a visit to Green Flowers & Pots, where you will find local brand DBKD, now a best-seller well beyond Vara. At Maritas Textil & Interiör you will find almost anything you could want in the way of soft furnishings.
Delicatessen products: For all cheese-lovers, Sivans Ost is a paradise with its matured Swedish hard cheeses.

Enjoy a relaxing coffee break
At Conditori Nordpolen you can enjoy a delicious cup of coffee, a scrumptious cream cake, a freshly baked bun and much, much more. Did you know that Nordpolen was named patisserie of the year in Sweden in 2016? A visit here is practically a must when visiting Vara. Take a seat in the classically styled café or enjoy the summer sun in the lush and leafy outdoor dining area. Just like old times, you will be served at your table by friendly waiting staff. Luxury!
