Winding country roads
The route is in total 65 km and follows the old railway track from Tranemo down to Ambjörnarp. South of Ambjörnarp you’ll be cycling mainly on winding, lightly trafficked country roads, mostly asphalted but with some shorter gravelled sections. There’s an imposing burial ground with three stone circles in Sjötofta, considered to be one of the finest and best preserved in the region. Hembygds park in the centre of Sjötofta has benches, tables and a grill area. Spring is a great time to visit Fagerås, famed for its drifts of daffodils.
Fegen - a nature reserve full of experiences
In Skyarp, around 12km from Sjötofta, you’ll find Påarps Gård, a holiday centre with hotel, cottages, camping and restaurant as well as many activities like fishing, canoeing, swimming and games, set in pretty countryside. A bit further south the cycle path goes past Gammalsjö Mill and the prehistoric burial site in Kummeludden. Gammalsjö Mill is a former toll mill, so called because the mill owner charged others for grinding grain. Built in 1850, the mill has an enormous water wheel, a whole 7m in diameter, and is always open. Kummeludden, by Gammalsjö Manor, is an Iron Age burial site in a leafy beech wood. You can explore the woodland paths along the lakeside and pause awhile on a bench with an enchanting view of Lake Fegen, feeling the history of the place come alive. The cycle route winds by the shore of Lake Fegen, which has a lovely nature reserve and excellent paddling opportunities. A short detour from the route takes you to Backa Loge hostel, set right on the shore of the lake, where you can go canoeing, swimming, walking as well as dine or have a snack.
