Peaceful fishing waters in Uddevalla

  • 17 Jul, 2024

Uddevalla offers many varied options for those who want to fish. In the forest area of Herrestadsfjället there are quiet fishing lakes, where there is a good chance of catching perch and pike. You can also try your luck fishing in the river Bäveån or out at sea!

Along Uddevalla's mile-long shoreline out to the West Sea and its location by magnificent forests and land, fishing has a long tradition in both salt and fresh water. The luck of catching a fish varies, but usually depends on the person holding the rod! Regardless of whether you are a sports angler, an amateur fisherman or a life enthusiast who likes to throw a few casts with a rod, there are special rules and restrictions. Simply put, a fishing license or the landowner's permission is required when you want to fish in the forest lakes and Bäveån. However, fishing in the sea and in Bjursjön is free of charge - yes, regardless of where you plan to fish and what it is, it is always a good idea to check what applies to the area and the lake. Some fishing licenses can be purchased at i-fiske or from a machine in the area.

In Bohuslän, it is permitted to fish for sea trout from 1 April until 30 September. The minimum size for sea trout is 45 cm and fish that are under the minimum size must be released back immediately. In order for fishing to remain for us to look forward to in the future, it is important that everyone follows the rules that have been introduced. So before you put on your waders and head out into the waves, you need to be a little careful. If you catch fish that you are not allowed to, or wish to, keep, it is important that the fish is handled carefully. Drill the fish for as short a time as possible and do not lift the fish out of the water. If you have to handle the fish, use wet hands so that you do not damage the fish's mucus layer.

Herrestadsfjället in Uddevalla is a clear favorite for seeking fishing luck, but we believe that it is also the nature itself that is inviting. There is the opportunity for noble fishing here, which you can find more information about here. The nature area is also a popular mountain for hiking by both Uddevalla residents and long-distance visitors. Herrestadsfjället is a forest area with a large element of rocky areas, bogs and lakes, and the older forest is 100 to 130 years old. In addition to fish in the lakes, there are also miles of paths and trails for hiking and skiing. Herrestadsfjället is part of Bohusleden trail.

If you don't have your own boat, you can rent one at Hafsten Resort, Anfasteröd Gårdsvik or at Destination Bokenäset.

We would also like to remind you to always clean your canoe/kayak/boat and equipment when moving between different places, this is to avoid spreading infections or unwelcome species.
