Trollhättan
The King's Cave is a great gift from the Ice Age, which has become Trollhättan's own guestbook for royal families throughout the ages. On the stone, visiting monarchs have carved their signatures, from Adolf Fredrik in 1754 to Carl XVI Gustaf. After the summer of 2001, we can now also see the Crown Princess Victoria's signature engraved in the mountain.
Next to Polhem's lock and the Oscar bridge in Trollhättan is a giant rock formed sometime after the ice age, when the water still covered the area that now forms the city.
Exactly why this place came to be used for an original guestbook for royal families is hard to say, but the location gave an excellent view of the waterfalls during that time. When King Adolf Fredrik and Queen Lovisa Ulrika in 1754 looked out over the foaming waterfalls, it was perhaps not surprising that they felt that the moment had to be preserved in stone.
How do I get here?
Follow the sign towards Trollhättfallen, park at the church. Go towards the Oscar Bridge that crosses the falls. Then follow the path on the left side just before the Oscar bridge down a few stairs.
