Beautiful park surrounding the Trollhättan locks area

Gamle Dal or Gamle Dal'n as it is also called, is a park that surrounds the old locks from 1800 and 1844 in Trollhättan's Locks Area. Here you can walk alongside the old locks, enjoy a picnic on the gras and discover many interesting sights.

Relax by Trollhättan's old lock steps

Enjoy a nice walk along the old locks in Trollhättan and feel history come to life as you see the old lock gates that were used in the 19th century. Surrounding the old locks is beautiful nature that offers great views regardless of the season.

In Gamle Dal there are plenty of places to han out. At the fountain by the lowest part of the locks is an old fountain where there are four beches where you can sit down and enjoy the view. There are also benches at Gården Åker house just north of the locks and there are benches scatered around the area where you can sit down and enjoy something to eat that you brought. If you'd rather bring you picnic blanket with you, there are plenty of green open areas to put it on.

It is also popular to fish at the Göta river that flows past Gamle Dal. So don't forget to bring your fishing rod when you visit, but please remember that you need a fishing license to fish here. You can find more information about fishing in the Göta river here.

It is very easy to get here, Gamle Dal is only about 3 kilometers from the city center, either by foot following the Trollhätte Canal from the center and past the locks or taking the car along Åkersbergsvägen road. There is a parking area at Vassliden, right by Gamle Dal.

Discover the area with Nils Ericson's Walk

You can learn more about the area by following the "Nils Ericson's Walk". This is a 1.6-kilometer-long walk that follows both the new and old lock steps through gamle Dal and with the help of the map you can read more about the places you pass by. Read more about the walk here.

Gården Åker

Just north of Gamle Dal is a house called Gården åker where there is a fireplace and also a playground for children. During winter, the hill below Gården Åker also becomes a great sledding hill.

Part of the Sculpture Tour

In Gamle Dal you will also find several beautiful sculptures that are part of Trollhättan's Sculpture Tour that runs from central Trollhättan, along the Trollhätte Canal, all the way down to the locks area. Read more about the Sculpture Tour here.
