Dalbobergen (Dalbo mountains) is a nature reserve that follows the shores of Lake Vänern from Vänersborg up to Ursand Resort and Camping in the north. Here you follow a dramatic landscape but walk comfortably through lush forest with fantastic views of Lake Vänern. This is the closest nature reserve to central Vänersborg and it is easy to hike all year round. From central Vänersborg you just have to cross the Dalbo Bridge and then follow the waters of Lake Vänern north.
If you come by car, it is possible to park at each end of the nature reserve and there are parking spaces along the road to Ursand. If you are interested in bird watching, there is a popular bird watching tower just south of the nature reserve which offers a magnificent view of Lake Vänern and the city of Vänersborg.
Hills, deep forests and Lake Vänern
Dalbobergen Nature Reserve offers its guests a varied terrain with rocky and forested terrain near Sweden's largest lake, Lake Vänern. Follow the winding gravel paths along the western edge of the lake and look over the waters that extends beyond the horizon. Here you see Vänersborg with Vassbotten bay in one direction and in the other you see the clear silhouettes of the table mountains Halle- and Hunneberg.
You hike north through the forest with streams and bridges along the way before you turn off inland. Here you can either go right and continue to Ursand Resort and Camping which i located only a few hundred meters away. Otherwise, you just continue along the trail into the forest to the left. Here the terrain is a bit more uneven but you are rewarded with the view of a beautiful forest environment where lingonberries, mushrooms, blueberries and mosses of various kinds grow along the trail.
Sit down and relax by the open fire or visit Ursand
On your way north along the trail you will pass by Bastungen, a former lighthouse where the local outdoor association Friluftsfrämjandet opens their cafe during spring and autumn on Sundays. There are also a number of outdoor fireplaces along the trail and about a kilometer from Bastungen there is a wind shelter with an outdoor fireplace close to the waters of Lake Vänern. Nearby there is also a small sandy beach.
If you want to combine hiking with swimming or other adventures, you can also take the opportunity to visit Ursand Resort and Camping which is not far from the hiking trail.
