Wilderness Hike - Sleeping Under the Stars

This is a weekend for those who love outdoor life! If you want to become part of nature, cook your own food in the wild, and sleep under the stars, this one is for you. Halle- and Hunneberg is the eco-park where you can spend day after day, hour after hour, and still have more to discover. We will inspire you on how to spend a weekend in the woods, where you can get the most and best out of outdoor life.

Starting Point at Prästeklev
We start at the southern part of Hunneberg, so drive through Västra Tunhem and up to Prästeklev, where you can park your car. Bring your backpack - now, let's go hiking! Follow the blue markings along Fagerhultsvägen until you reach Grinnsjö Nature Reserve and continue up to Grinnsjön. Here, we switch to the orange markings and follow the eastern edge of Grinnsjön. If it's a sunny summer day, you can cool off in the lake or try your luck at fishing (fishing permit required).

Långevattnet - Your Hotel Room for the Night
Continue up along the round trail 11, orange markings, Långevattenstigen. Soon you will reach the enchanting lake Långevattnet, a true gem of Hunneberg. This will be your home for the night. Here you'll find an eco-toilet, a grill area, and a shelter where you can have a wonderful evening, read a good book, socialize, or even fish in the sunset (fishing permit required). Cook your own meal (maybe freshly caught fish?) over an open fire, and then fall asleep to the sound of the forest, enjoying a restful night's sleep under the stars.

Blueberry Picking Among the Marshes
Good morning! After a good breakfast with a stunning lake view, you can continue your journey along the round trail 11. Proceed down along Lönestigen where you pass through Öjemossarna Nature Reserve - here you'll find spectacular nature to explore. Soon you'll be walking between Bergsjön and Grinnsjön, and it might be time for a snack break! If it's the right season, blueberries grow abundantly here, so take the opportunity to pick some to enjoy. Soon you'll be back on familiar ground as you return to Grinnsjö Nature Reserve. Go for a swim, rent a rowing boat on Grinnsjön, or simply go the same way back to Prästeklev and head home or towards the next adventure!

TIPS!

  • Map
To avoid getting lost and to see where the shelters, grill areas, and trails are, we strongly recommend bringing the hiking map of the mountains. You can order it here or buy it at our tourist offices.

  • Beware of Fire Bans!
If there hasn't been rain for a while, there may be a fire ban during summer, and grilling might not be allowed. Make sure to check this before embarking on your journey.

  • Fishing Permit
In Hunneberg, you need a fishing permit to fish in all the lakes. The Royal Hunt museum (Kungajaktmuseet) is responsible for the fishing waters in Hunneberg, and you can purchase a fishing permit there or online

  • Toilet
Along this hike, there is an eco-toilet near Prästeklev at the beginning and another one where you stay overnight at Långevattnet. They are marked on the map.

  • The Right of Public Access
You have a Right of Public Access whenever you visit Swedish nature. However, there are a number of things you should keep in mind when you’re out walking, camping, climbing, picking flowers or simply enjoying nature. Read about it here

  • Take Your Time
Don't forget to look up and take in the surroundings regularly. The nature in the mountains is fantastic, so even though it's a good idea to watch your step, we recommend raising your gaze, slowing down, pausing, and perhaps taking a picture or two.

Enjoy your hike!
