Gunneby, Tjörn

1.9 kilometers of moderate difficulty

At Tjörn's equestrian Center, you'll find this lovely little hiking trail offering steep slopes and delightful views. There's a possibility for barbecuing and overnight stays in shelters, and of course, the proximity to the sea is an added bonus.

The trail is a popular loop among families with children. It's not very long, and along the way, there's excitement for the little ones with the sea, forests, mountains, and a cottage ruin. The barbecue area is spacious and well-organized, and the hiking trail is well-marked.

The trail starts along the sea at Gunneby Kile. You'll follow the easy path that winds along the shallow bay, then turns towards the forest and up the steep slope leading to higher ground. If you take a detour, you'll reach the viewpoint, clearly signposted, situated 80 meters above sea level.

The next turnoff leads to the shelter and barbecue area constructed by the Outdoor Recreation Association. Bring your own firewood if you wish to use the designated spot. The hiking trail continues past the cottage ruins and then loops back through the beautiful mixed forest toward the riding hall.

If you want to avoid the steep slope, it's possible to reach the shelter and viewpoint by walking the loop in reverse and then turning back the same way; there will be an ascent but not as steep.

There's no swimming opportunity directly along the hiking trail, but on the other side of the bay, there's Gunneby Bathing Area, which is very family-friendly.

Not far from the trail, you'll find Lekanders Bär och Boende and Sibräcka prästgård , both offering self-picking of strawberries in summer. Additionally, you might want to stop by Tjörn Golf Club for lunch or do some shopping at Korggubben in Kållekärr.
