Tidaholm Museum
Tidaholm
Tidaholm Museum tells the story of Vulcan, the world's largest match factory around the turn of the last century, and of Tidaholms Bruk, which produced, among other things, furniture and automobiles.
The Workers', Matches', and City's History
The core exhibition at Tidaholm Museum narrates the tale of this rapidly growing town, the process of industrialization, and the labor at the match factory. You can also explore other environments from Tidaholm, including a general store from Varola and a prison cell from Tidaholmsanstalten. Don't miss the slideshow, which takes you on a 12-minute journey through the history of matches and vehicle manufacturing.
Interested in Swedish Automotive History?
Tidaholms Bruk produced trucks, buses, fire trucks, and other heavy utility vehicles between 1903 and 1934. Over 1,100 vehicles were manufactured at the factory, and "Tidaholmarn" became synonymous with quality, putting Tidaholm on the map in terms of automotive history. At Tidaholm Museum, you can view some of these vehicles.
The Blacksmith Shop (Smithy)
The building that houses the museum was constructed in 1871 as part of Vulcan's match factory.
The old blacksmith shop, where parts for matchstick machines were manufactured in the 1900s, is still preserved in its original state and is in active use.
Temporary Exhibitions, Guided Tours, and a Gift Shop
In addition to the core exhibition, there are usually one or more temporary exhibitions on display, either borrowed or produced in-house. Guided tours of the exhibitions can be arranged, and in the pleasant museum shop, you can purchase souvenirs from Tidaholm.
