Konstlitografiska verkstaden
Tidaholm
Operated by the Lithographic Academy in Tidaholm, Konstlitografiska Verkstaden (Lithographic Art Workshop) is a place where artists can personally create their lithographic images. This workshop also serves as an educational space for artists and art students.
A Collective Workshop
Konstlitografiska Verkstaden is the most well-equipped workshop for lithographic art production in all of Scandinavia. Artists from all over the world come here to print their lithographic images themselves. The workshop also serves as an educational space for artists and art students. The workshop includes a handpaper-making facility where members and visiting artists can create their own paper.
History
When the print shop at Vulcan match factory was closed down, artist Karl-Åke Nyström managed to salvage some equipment and started an artistic printing operation. He founded an artist association called "Labyrinten," which in 1958 initiated the collective workshop. In the 1960s, students from Hellidens Folkhögskola were offered courses, leading to the establishment of a printmaking school.
In the early 1980s, the operation moved into the old drafting office building of the match factory on the island called Vulcanön.
Guided Tours
Konstlitografiska Verkstaden welcomes visits from individuals and groups. Visitors are guided through the history of lithography and can participate in the creation of a lithographic print, which is then printed in a limited edition at the workshop.
