Canoe Trail Tidan
Tidaholm
The River Tidan originates in the borderland between Småland and Västergötland. On its way towards Lake Vänern, it flows through deep coniferous forests and picturesque deciduous meadows. The canoe trail passes through the municipality of Tidaholm.
Canoe Trail with Overnight Stops
The Tidan River canoe trail passes numerous culturally and historically significant mill dams. Along the river, there are several prepared overnight stops, complete with tent areas, fire/grilling spots, dry toilets, and firewood. The river includes several portages past older power plants and mill dams, so a canoe trolley is necessary. Land transports are marked with signs. Show respect for nature, as the canoe journey goes through several bird protection areas, which entails a significant responsibility.
Kyrkekvarn-Madängsholm
Approximately 25 km south of Tidaholm lies Kyrkekvarn's canoe center, where canoes are available for rent. The stretch from Kyrkekvarn to Gimmesjön was formerly known as "Kvarnarnas å" (The River of Mills). Here, you can find traces of old mill environments and hollow roads leading down to the dams. Overnight stops are available at Gimmesjön, Ågården, Ettak, and Madängsholm.
Madängsholm-Fröjered
This stretch passes through Tidaholm with two islands in the center. On the isalnd called Vulcanön, you'll find Tidaholm's museum, which reflects the city's industrial history. On the island called Turbinhusön, there's a well-preserved cultural environment with blacksmith cottages, a café called "Kaffestugan", a spice garden, an art gallery, and beautiful plantings. At the southern entrance, you'll find Tidaholms camping, open from April to September. Overnight stops are available at Nycklerör and in Fröjered.
