Outdoor terrace overlooking the marina

When you step off the ferry on Marstrandsön, Bergs Konditori is only 200 metres to your right. The queue is often long in the summer, with visitors from all over the world. The fascinating interior hints at the café’s rich history, though most guests prefer the outdoor terrace in order to watch the boat life by Marstrand’s inlet.

Wonderful smell of home baking

There is no denying the classic and genuine nature of the produce here. All the cakes and pastries are produced on site and the sandwiches are made directly to order. There is everything from cinnamon buns to small cakes with almond paste topped with icing and, of course, coffee, tea and refreshing cordials. Take your time over a classic sailor’s breakfast in the morning, or if you prefer, buy your cakes to take with you on a walk around the island.

Selma Lagerlöf visited the building

The patisserie opened its doors for the first time in the beginning of the 1920s a few streets away on Hospitalgatan. Ten years later it moved to the current premises on Hamngatan 9. The building on Hamngatan had previously housed an officers’ mess and it is said that Selma Lagerlöf sat in the small garden at the back of the house writing Herr Arnes Penningar, which was mostly set in the area around Marstrand.
