A meeting place of fairytales

The cultural city of Skara carries a 1,000-year-old history. Just a short walk from the cathedral lies the old diocesan library, built in the 19th century, which we now call the Old Library. With the book at its center, we let history meet the present in our new creative cultural hub for book lovers of all ages.

Exploring knowledge in a timeless setting

The Diocesan and Regional Library in Skara is one of the oldest libraries in the country. Housed in a beautiful brick building, it holds unique collections ranging from the Middle Ages to the present day.

On the second floor, you'll find the Research Department in a classic library setting with preserved original interiors. Here, a vast literary heritage is housed, spanning from the early 13th century to the present day. The Research Department is also open to popular genealogy research. Everyone is welcome to visit the Old Library and the Research Department!

If you’re interested in learning more about the Old Library, we offer short guided tours. Contact us via: email to book a visit or call us at +46 (0)511-320 00.
