Stage Borås – Ulricehamn (47km)

The road from Borås to Ulricehamn consists exclusively of the embankment that once formed the basis of the now defunct railway. You travel along meadows, fields, agricultural areas - and many cooling lakes, so don't forget your swimwear!

Borås

In Borås you will find events, sports, cosy restaurants and beautiful views along the Viskan river. Over the years, the textile centre has become a small big city, but still a lot revolves around design and fashion! Borås is also called the Sculpture City thanks to the city's many statues. The zoo is a popular family outing destination.

In Borås you will initially cycle in an urban environment, but when you leave Borås you will come out on the old railway embankment which takes you all the way to Ulricehamn, along lakes, cafes and experiences.

There is the occasional hill at the height of Gånghester and Lofors - which actually meant that the trains had to back up and then accelerate to be able to get up and over in the old days. Not least when the slippery autumn leaves lay on the rails.

Gånghester

Gånghester is a town where you can stop and buy refreshments in a cafe. The Eton shirt factory is also located here, a clear sign that you are in the heart of the Swedish textile industry.

Dalsjöfors

On the way you also pass a mill pond with the mill remains from Dalsjöfors. There was a mill here already in the 18th century and is a nice place to stop and rest. Inside Dalsjöfors there is a cozy sourdough bakery with an associated cafe – Säsongsbagarn. And we really recommend a visit to the critically acclaimed restaurant "Räven & Rönnbären".

Rångedala

I Rångedala - Algustorp there are nice hiking trails of varying lengths. Just outside the community, a stone's throw from the embankment, is Marsjöns bathing area.

Välagården

Just before the community of Nitta, you can make a short detour and stop at Välagården by Lake Kleven! There are overnight accommodations for up to 30 people, distributed in 14 rooms with access to showers, toilets and also a sauna at the southern end of Nattugglan. If you are at least ten people in the cycling group, Välagården can also open up its restaurant for you or to fix some breakfast.

Ådalens café and present

A good place to replenish energy is Ådalen's café and present, which is located along the cycle path. In addition to home-baked goods (often locally produced and organic), you can also buy handicrafts and furnishings for the home and garden.

Nitta

I Nitta there is a mill pond that has been prepared into a charming and peaceful rest area. Swimming is excellent here.

Härnasjön Lake

At Härnasjön you can see the traces of a nasty derailment that happened in 1919, about a year after the opening of the railway. It was discovered too late that the embankment had collapsed to almost half of its capacity and the locomotive plunged straight in to lake killing the train driver.

Hökerum

In the community of Hökerum, you can stop and look at Södra Ving's church, which was built in the early 12th century. It has a Roman portal on the south wall and medieval paintings on the ceiling. Two thousand-year-old burial mounds can be found outside the church. You will also find bathing spots at Mogden Lake if it is time for a cooling dip.

Vädersholm and Fragranäs

At an point on the southern side of Mogden Lake are the ruins of ruins of Väderholms fortified nobleman's farm – a castle from the 14th and 15th centuries. Several castle ruins can be found in the area. The reason for this is that Western Sweden used to be a troubled border region between Swedish Västergötland, Danish Halland and Norwegian Bohuslän. It was here, on the eastern and southern shores of Mogden Lake, that the roads converged. In the Fagranäs area there are remains of a medieval nobleman's farm with two large slopes and several moats as well as remains of buildings. The area is several hundred meters long and, according to medieval archaeologists, completely unique. There is nothing similar in Sweden.

Ulricehamn

Ulricehamn is known for its genuine and picturesque center surrounded by Åsunden. The lake has left its mark on the urban area with its water activities, surroundings and tranquility. Ulricehamn is a changing city that develops all year round. Space for relaxation and tranquility, nature and city life exist side by side.

On the northern shore of Åsund as you cycle into Ulricehamn is Prångens camping. As you continue into Ulricehamn, we recommend a stop at the lakeside. The former railway area has been carefully converted into a nice area with boathouses that offer canoe rental, a restaurant and café. You can also rent bikes here! The old station house is now Ulricehamns Tourist office, and there you can get more information about what is going on right now.
