5 unique culture experiences in Sjuhärad

What is culture? We think that culture is everything that our society preserves and passes on to future generations. Sjuhärad's culture can be found in our old buildings, working communities and craft traditions. But also in all the people who picked up knowledge and techniques from bygone times and passed them on. To you and to me.

Årås Manor

"The county's most important estate and manor seat". This is what Årås manor was called when it was built in the 16th century. Since then, Årås has been characterised by the presence of the nobility for many centuries, and for a period the manor was owned by the Gyllenstierna family, councillors to the Vasa kings.

Today, there are fewer councillors and nobles here, but more activities and exciting business. In this historic and charming environment, thereis a very active village farm in operation with everything from accommodation and a garden cafe to events and courses in, among other things, building maintenance and cultivation.

Limmared

The old mining town of Limmared is a Mecca for junk collectors, and retro and culture enthusiasts.

In the auction hall and the 12 second-hand, antique and retro shops, you can find everything from antique furniture and clocks to retro vases and vintage clothes.

In Limmared you will also find Sweden's oldest glass factory, Glasets Hus which still produces glass, including the famous Absolut bottle. A piece of Swedish culture in itself.

Combine the antique hunt and a viewing of the glassblowing gallery with a good lunch at the old Limmareds Värdshus or the charming Glasets Hus.

Crea diem Book café

When two good things such as books and coffee meet, magic happens! Crea diem book café's philosophy is that the Book Café is a meeting place - to sit down and talk to each other, drink a good hot or cold drink with home baked goods, buy a book in the bookstore, experience an exhibition, relax under the trees on a summer's day or take a walk in a cultural environment. An lovely excursion for those who want to recharge their batteries and get new inspiration.

Uddebo

Uddebo is quite a small village where quite a lot happens. New cultural meeting places are constantly emerging, both inside and outside the large houses, which were once furniture weaving mills.

Describing Uddebo is not entirely easy - but if you try, you can talk about the community as a place where residents and visitors collaborate to create events, festivals, courses and projects. Here, music, theatre and art come together with cultivation, crafts and sourdough bakery. What is on the schedule for the day varies, but the activities are centred around the old Weaver Väveriet in the middle of the village.

Änglagård village

30 years ago, Film director Colin Nutley and his team created the film Änglagård, which has become one of the most watched Swedish films of all time. Nutley fell in love with the small village of Liared in Sjuhärad. Although the love eventually ended, the romance endured to the location and inspired the Swedish film classic.

Today you can travel on winding dirt roads between the iconic filming locations. A road trip that offers beautiful views, good coffee stops, farm shops and perhaps a dip in the same lake as Fanny Zaner herself. Discover the classic Änglagård village this summer.
