From busy shipyards to peaceful countryside

In times gone by, Köpmannebro used to be a busy place with several shipyards and much trading. It is now a calm and idyllic place, where the family owned Swedish Country Living facility is surrounded by clean air, fresh water and an abundance of wildlife. In this tranquil environment where you are welcomed by the owners you have a choice between five different types of accommodation, including historic farm buildings and the architect designed hermitage cabins on the edge of the Dalsland forest. Book a package and you get a guided tour and may even see their grazing sheep, hens and ducks and learn why they are important for biodiversity.

Off-grid is the new luxury.

Sustainable housing reaches new levels in the award-winning Hermitage cabins, built with recycled doors and windows, natural insulation in the form of sheep’s wool and a luxurious but minimalist interior.

With a few days of “detox” in a Hermitage cabin, you’ll have a no-electricity reboot and will be ready for a stress-free life. The cabins are beautifully situated on the edge of the forest overlooking a lake. They have space for two, large windows, a warm fireplace and large bed. The booking fee includes breakfast; lunch and dinner is included when booking a package and are served either in the Orangery or the outdoor kitchen.

The Hermitage cabins can also be booked as a Climate Smart Package: Two overnight stays, including all food and use of a canoe. Bring your electric car and use the onsite charger. Or relax and leave your car at home – you’ll be picked up at the station. The cabins are close enough to the water for you to take a dip in the morning or evening. This is a wonderful place to just be and reconnect with nature or each other.

Cabins with outdoor kitchen and spa

The popular original Hermitage cabin has been joined by two more new cabins, now with an outdoor cooking and outdoor spa.

With a ceiling height of 6 meters, the A-Frame Hermitage is an impressive building. The new Slate House Hermitage has over 4000 slate tiles on the facade which gives it a feeling of a gingerbread house. Through seven large windows you have a view of a small forest lake among large, aged trees. Inside the house by the iron stove, you can both warm up and enjoy the view.

Swedish Country Living is part of the network A taste of West Sweden. The network gathers restaurants and cafes that, in close collaboration with local producers, offer West Swedish culinary experiences based on seasonal and local ingredients.

Skeppargården goes back to the 18th century and has period furniture, with plenty of space for up to 6 people. It is situated on a hill but is close to the beach.  The Shipyard Farmhouse is a large, renovated country house surrounded by water; there is space for six in three bedrooms and a separate toilet and shower. Kitchenware and WiFi are included in the booking fee.

More than just sustainable – Regenerative

Swedish Country Living runs also a small scale organic farm working with Permaculture principles and regenerative agriculture to produce their own food. The aim of their holistic management of the land is to create better resilience against extreme weather conditions which in turn results in a more sustainable and regenerative tourism business.
