Tidavad Church
Tidavad
On a small hill in the small community of Tidavad sits this church with heritage from the Middle Ages.
The oldest pictures of the church are from 1720 when the church can be seen on Peringsköld's work Monumenta Sviogotica. Here, you can see a church with a church room under a simple saddle roof, a thinner altar, and a lumber vestibule on the south side. A simple bell tower stood just south of the church.
The altar was torn down in 1728 and the church was lengthened to the east to the size it is today. A remembrance tablet of these buildings exists by the eastern wall.
There's been many smaller and extensive renovations during the 19th and 20th centuries, and 1862 an extension with a tower was planned, but never followed through.
The last renovation happened in 1953, in which the bells were electrified and a new organ, electrical lights and electrical heating were added.
Interior
The inventories of the church are from different eras. Among other things, there's a square font in stone from the early Middle Ages and a font in tree from 1693. The retable is from the 1693 as well, and there's a Madonna Cabinet which is a northern german work from the 1500's. The bell tower has two bells. The larger one is from the Middle Ages, and the smaller one was remolded in 1753.
The ceiling was painted for the first time in 1747 but was repainted only ten years later by Karl Gustav Johst. During a renovation in 1999 was the ceiling paintings and the church room refreshed.
