On Skaftö and within a short distance there is everything Bohuslän has to offer and right in the middle of the wilderness according to CNN. Thanks to the herring periods, communities started growing. The cultural history is strongly connected to fishing, shipping and its small industry. The first seaside resorts in Sweden started in Bohuslän and today summer tourism is still important. The granite begins with the Gullmar fjord and has given the stone industry its history up to the Norvegian border. Skaftö is located just south of Sweden's only real fjord. In recent years, the island has been the location to shoot several films. The TV series Saltön is the most popular.
