Stora Eken hiking trail 6 km
Kållandsö
On the northern side of Stora Eken, there are still some large oak trees that gave the island its name. Stora Eken is the largest island in the Eken archipelago and was inhabited from the 1500s until the 1960s, when farming and forestry were practiced there. Today, parts of the island are grazed by horses in the summer. The island boasts a rich flora and fauna, including water birds, hares, moose, and deer. The trail is largely lake-adjacent through hilly terrain, and you will need a boat to reach it.
The trail starts at a dock for canoes/kayaks and small boats on the western side of the island. At the dock, there is a campsite with a wind shelter, barbecue spot, and composting toilet. There is an additional barbecue spot with a composting toilet along the trail. Free firewood is available at the barbecue spots from May 1 to September 30.
