The cranes at Lake Hornborgasjön are a much-loved sign of spring and a must-see visitor attraction for many. The cranes visit the lake from around mid-March to mid-April.
Magical sight in the mornings and evenings
At the southern end of the lake you can see cranes throughout the day, but the spectacle of the cranes dancing (Trandansen) is most beautiful in the mornings and evenings, with the cranes flying through the often magical early dawn and dusk light. It’s a noisy affair at those times too, with the cranes all trying to feed in the morning and seeking out a spot in which to sleep in the evening. (There may be fewer cranes in the evenings than in the mornings.)
There are usually also fewer people around at these times, so you have plenty of space for enjoying the spectacle.
