A full-day journey of flavours, farm shops, and scenic views around Hjo.

Follow the flavours around the Hjo countryside! Pick your own berries, discover world-class cheese, enjoy scenic fika spots, and bring home local delicacies from small-scale producers. This six-hour round trip (by car) starts and ends in the charming town of Hjo – perfect for a delicious day out.

Wake Up in Hjo – and Treat Yourself to Breakfast

Start your day in the heart of Hjo with a cosy breakfast at one of the town’s cafés. Many bake their bread and pastries on-site, setting the tone for a day of local food delights.

Spring’s Delicacy – White Asparagus by the Church

Just south of Hjo, near Norra Fågelås Church, Vätternsparris offers freshly picked white asparagus from May through June. A true seasonal gem straight from the field.

Cheese Lovers’ Paradise at Almnäs Bruk

Almnäs Bruk’s self-service farm shop is home to some of Sweden’s most prestigious cheeses. Stock up on Wrångebäck (with PDO status) and other award-winning varieties like Almnäs Tegel, Anno 1225 and Almnäs 1 Liter.

A Bite with a View – Café Stop at The View

Craving lunch or something sweet? Head to The View, just outside Brandstorp. Their in-house bakery creates everything from breads to beautiful cakes – all served with a spectacular view over Lake Vättern.

Go Wild – Bison Meat and Safari Adventures

At Mobolets Gård in Gate, you’ll find Hjo’s very own Bison Farm. Shop for high-quality bison meat, hides and local goods, or in summer, enjoy a meal in the farm café or join a guided bison safari.

Pick Your Own – Berries at Kaggestorps Gård

From early July to mid-August, Kaggestorps Gård invites visitors to pick blueberries and raspberries. The mini farm shop also sells eggs, honey, and other little local treats.

Summer Flavours at Munkebo Gård

The summer farm shop at Munkebo Gård is a treasure trove of seasonal fruit, vegetables and local delicacies. During June and July, you can also pick your own strawberries – a summer must-do!

Pork at Grevbäcks Gris

At Grevbäcks Gris, located at the vicarage in Grevbäck, you can buy premium pork from a fully integrated, sustainable farm. Payment is easy via Swish in the self-service shop “Visthusboden”.

A Sip of Local Tradition – Hjo Brewery

For nearly a century, Hjo Bryggeri has been crafting classic Swedish soft drinks like svagdricka, must, and juniper soda. Stop by the small brewery shop to pick up something truly local.
