Södra Björke church
Södra Björke, Herrljunga
Södra Björke church is located off road 183, south of Herrljunga village. The church was completed in 1779. Just north of the church, Herrljunga- Gäsenebygden's pilgrimage pass.
Södra Björke church was completed in 1779 and replaced an older medieval church, which was thought to be too small. From the beginning there was no porch and vestry to built. According to a legend, a master builder have escaped with the money and the church could not expand the parts until 1921. The church was painted in 1821 and there was a major renovation in 1869, when a new stand, windows and benches were installed. In 1963 the church was renovated and re-painted it in bright, beautiful colors.
The altarpiece is made by AG Ljungström from Sandhem. It shows Jesus on the cross with Mary, the Mother of the Lord, to the right and the disciple John left. A large number of angels hovering around the cross and one large angel on the right side of Jesus. The Baptismal font is from the 1100s and is made of sandstone.
The church has bell tower in the churchyard and there is a sundial from the 1717th
