Family gravel ride to Baldersnäs - 22 km

Fun family bike ride

This circular route consists of both gravel and asphalt roads so is rideable with either gravel or road bikes. There’s very little traffic on the roads so it’s a perfect route for beginners or anyone cycling with kids.

Start and finish at Laxsjöns Camping & Friluftsgård where it’s easy to park. After a few kilometres you’ll arrive at Slusscaféet i Långbron (first fika chance of the day) where you’ll turn right onto a lovely gravel road through the forest to the locks in Mustadfors.

Fika and manor house lunch

In Mustadfors you can stop at Lailas Café (second fika chance of the day) which serves home baked fika and delicious waffles. Then it’s time to test your legs on a longer climb up through Dalsland’s forests.

When you get to Baldersnäs Herrgård (fika chance number three) it’s time to get off the bike again and stretch your legs. Maybe it’s easier just to have lunch in the manor, or if you don’t want that you could have a picnic instead in the large English garden, one of the first laid in Sweden. Café Allé is also situated here, with waffles and fika.

Finish the ride with a swim

Next you’ll cycle along the shoreline of Lake Laxsjön back to Långbron, where you can get ice creams in the lock cafe (fourth fika chance) The last stretch to Laxsjöns you’ll be familiar with from earlier. There’s a swimming area with a lovely sandy beach at the campsite.

Remember to check the cafes’ opening times before you set off. The lock cafe in Långbron, Lailas Café and Café Allé are all summer cafes.
