Trails and maps

Dalsland is known for its wild nature. Therefore, prepare yourself for trails that follow forest paths. The terrain is often hilly, which in turn gives you a reward in the form of beautiful views.

Hiking areas

National park, the pilgrim trail and southern Sweden's largest wilderness area. In Dalsland there are several areas that are particularly popular for hikers and that often have several trails to choose from.

30. Tresticklan National Park

Number of trails: 3 (4,5 - 12 km)
Hike on nice hiking trails in untouched wilderness. The largest roadless and undeveloped forests in southern Sweden.

31. Kroppefjäll wilderness area

South of Dalsland
The area is southern Sweden's largest nature area with over 100 km of hiking trails, 12 nature reserves and 23,000 hectares of forest and lakes.

32. The Pilgrim Trail

Vänersborg - Edsleskog
Length: 100 km
A varied hiking trail that takes you through all that is Dalsland - across the southern plains and the northern wilderness.

33. Hiking in Ronjaland

Fengersfors
Number of trails: 5 (1,3 km - 38 km)
Trails in an area where several scenes in the film "Ronja the robber's daughter" were filmed. Offers nice views and long hikes.

When hiking!

Always bring plenty of water with you when you’re out hiking.

Wear comfortable and well-fitting shoes to avoid sore feet.

Long pants protect against ticks and other insects.

Dress according to the weather in several layers.

If it’s sunny – wear a hat or cap.

If you’re hiking alone, always tell someone where you’re going and when you are expected to be back.

If you are not used to handle a map and compass - it is important to follow the marked trails. It’s easy to get lost.
