Would you like a cozy fika break at a café in the heart of the city, or perhaps you’re looking for a fika getaway? Here are some tips for delightful cafés located in central Strömstad, shopping malls, and rural and seaside cafés. Some are open year-round, while others are seasonal. You can find each café’s opening hours on their website or social media (Facebook/Instagram).

1. Backlunds Bakery, Bistro, and Bar The staff at Backlunds serves breakfast, homemade bread, cakes, pastries, large tasty cinnamon buns, and sandwiches. If you’re still hungry, feel free to return for lunch, dinner, or something to drink. A popular spot by Oscarsplatsen where you can enjoy your fika on the harbor dock just outside the café.

2. Kaffedoppet At Kaffedoppet, you’ll find classic fika treats and bread, and you can also buy breakfast bread to take home or choose whatever you like from their breakfast buffet. They have their own bakery with high-quality breads, pastries, and cakes. The newly renovated upstairs offers a great view of the southern harbor and is close to the train station.

3. LovaLisas LovaLisas offers a varied selection of homemade fika treats, salads, fresh sandwiches, and coffee in all its forms, among much more. They also serve breakfast packages, catering, cakes, and sandwich cakes. You can find LovaLisas at Strömstad Shopping Center.

4. Norra Valvet Norra Valvet is a café, bistro, and fast food restaurant located in the middle of the square in downtown Strömstad. Choose between a sandwich, bun, hot dog with mashed potatoes, soft ice cream, or pick from a large selection of scoop ice cream.

5. Saturday Fika at Laholmen On Saturday mornings during the autumn and winter, starting at 11 AM, the lounge at Scandic Laholmen transforms into a fika spot. Buns, croissants, sun buns, cookies, and many other delicious treats are served. Each week offers different varieties, so you can come every Saturday and try something new each time!

6. Halkjærs Hamnbageri A stone oven bakery, patisserie, and café with a liquor license located on NorraHamngatan. Here, you can enjoy freshly baked buns and bread, shrimp sandwiches, hot lunch dishes, cakes, and handmade pastries. They also have a wonderful selection of ice cream that is sure to make you happy.

7. Kosterhavet’s Entrance Rossö Hamncafé On the scenic Rossö Island in the small harbor, you’ll find this café. It’s best to combine a fika or lunch with a visit upstairs, where you’ll find an exhibition about Kosterhavet National Park and the history of Rossö as a lobster hub. 8. Alaska Stone and Visitor Garden on Nord Långö On Nord Långö in Strömstad’s archipelago lies Alaska, a site created in the late 1920s by 60-year-old Hilma Svedahl (1870–1965). There’s a cozy café offering coffee, waffles, homemade treats, Alaska beer, delightful shrimp sandwiches, and refreshing ice cream. Sit down and enjoy a cup of coffee at the kiosk while admiring Hilma’s works. The café is open during the summer season when archipelago tours visit Alaska.
