Bohuslän Chamber Music Festival
Bohuslän

World class chamber music along Bohuslän’s salt sprayed coastline

At the premiere of the Bohuslän Chamber Music Festival 25–29 June our internationally renowned mezzo-soprano Malena Ernman will be performing, to the tones of some of Europe’s foremost chamber musicians. And not just that, actor Mikael Persbrandt will be bringing to life Strindberg and T.S. Eliot’s dramatic prose. Welcome to a summer festival for all the senses!

During eight concerts in six locations Bohuslän’s salt sprayed archipelago becomes the arena for a new tradition: The Bohuslän Chamber Music Festival!

The festival stretches from Lysekil’s sun warmed cliffs to Marstrand’s windswept fortress, from Orust’s green forests to Tjörn’s open coastal expanses. In historic fishing villages, among fishing huts and lighthouses, in peaceful chapels and next to Pilane’s majestic sculptures, music and words merge together to make a complete experience. During the evenings local food and drinks will also be served, providing an extra gilt edge to the event.

World renowned artists
Enjoy Sweden’s world famous mezzo-soprano Malena Ernman who will be accompanied by top international musicians. Vivaldi’s “The Four Seasons” takes on new life when the breeze ripples over the ocean, and Beethoven’s “Moonlight Sonata” is reflected back from the North Sea.
Actor Mikael Persbrandt brings to life Strindberg’s intensive drama and T.S. Eliot’s poetic depth, melding with Malena Ernman’s warm voice and the chamber musicians’ lively tones. The outdoor concert in the Pilane sculpture park becomes a mind-expanding evening of music and poetry under the bare sky.

What is chamber music?
Chamber Music is a form of classical music which is performed by a small ensemble, with one instrument to each part. It is often written for a string quartet (two violins, viola and cello), piano trio (piano, violin and cello) or a wind quintet.

The name comes from where the music was performed, in small rooms or “chambers” rather than in large concert halls or churches. Chamber music is considered to be one of the most intimate forms of music, which craves close interaction and communication between the musicians.

Some famous composers of chamber music include: Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Ludwig van Beethoven, Johannes Brahms and Franz Schubert.
